A Welshman in Torino...

So how did a Welshman in Italy celebrate a Grand Slam last Saturday?

...By watching the game on the telly with tea and Welsh cakes, and with a Welsh flag flying outside the house, of course…

Although Gaby hails from Buenos Aires, he speaks a lot more Welsh than me – but that’s another story!

…but the flag was flown (and the Welsh Cakes were made) by the fair hands of Gaby, and his daughters Gaia and Carys. Although Gaby hails from Buenos Aires, he speaks a lot more Welsh than me – but that’s another story! (We also got to celebrate with some beautifully drawn and fiercley-red-coloured Welsh dragons courtesy of Gaia and Carys, who got just a little bit tired of watching the game…)

So as we marked out our little square of Wales last Saturday afternoon (not to mention celebrating a fine win for Italy, too…) I might have missed home just a tiny bit. But I’ve often been reminded here over the last few months of the privilege of serving in an International church. I am aware that I have so much in common with my Christian brothers and sisters from countries I’ve never been to. Buenos Aires is a long way from Ruabon, but Gaby is a real brother.

And not just because he makes great Welsh cakes…
