A Brave New World

A sermon series for summer evenings in August 2022

A Brave New WorldProbably in most of our lifetimes, the world has never looked so disjointed and dangerous. In such times, societies seek after explanations for what's gone wrong and how it can be fixed. In Ephesians, Paul offers an explanation which is ultimate and timeless. It begins with Christ crucified and risen to reign, but what is most surprising in Ephesians is how pivotal the church is to God's plan to restore and unite all things in Christ. Indeed, Paul goes as far as to say that God's "intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms" (3:10). What a remarkable vocation the church has in the world!

In this mini-series in Ephesians, we are going to explore the place of the church in the world. In so doing, we will be equipped to give an explanation for what's wrong with the world, and how we, as the church, really do have a central part to play in God's plan to fix it.
