Motto 2017

"We love because he first loved us" - 1 John 4:19

Christian discipleship starts with God. His unstoppable, unfathomable and undeserved love for us. Not 'for us in our Sunday best' or 'for us with our impressive religious credentials.' But for us 'while we were still sinners.' If you're part of God's family at Highfields, you're here because of His stunning preemptive love.

So it's only natural that those who've received love respond with love.

We'll want to respond with love for the Lord in worship - whether that's when we're gathered together on Sundays, or scattered throughout the week. We'll want to grow in love for one another within our church family - a love that is both broad and deep.  And we'll want to enflame a love for the lost in mission to Cardiff, Wales and the world - sharing our lives and the gospel with those in need.

We love because He first loved us.

Motto Verse in Context

1 John 4:7-21 via BibleGateway

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
