"It is finished!" He cried, and breathed his last. Then three days later he rose in mighty victory. And after forty days of appearing to the hundreds, he took his disciples up a mountain. One last item on the to-do list and Jesus would be home with his Father in glory.
Mission accomplished. Or so you'd think.
The Great Commission is a clear reminder that while Jesus's earthly ministry was nearly done, there was much yet still to do.
Lost nations still needed to hear of a Saviour. Weak Christians still needed to be given strength. The same is true today.
At Highfields Church we're as committed as ever to joining Jesus in his mission. We've heard his call and we hold to his promise:
"Go and make disciples... I am with you always".

Matthew 28:16-20 via BibleGateway
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'
