At this double session on Saturday morning, Dr Peter J Williams will address the question: 'Have we got the History right?' and Dr Dirk Jongkind will address the question: 'Have we got the Text right?'  Join us to get up to date with the latest research.

This event is ideal for anyone wanting to know more, particularly students of theology.

About Our Speakers

Peter J Williams

Dr Peter J. Williams is the Warden of Tyndale House, Cambridge. He was educated at Cambridge University, where he received his MA, MPhil and PhD, in the study of ancient languages related to the Bible.

After his PhD he was on staff in the Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge University (1997-1998), and thereafter taught Hebrew and Old Testament at Cambridge University as Affiliated Lecturer in Hebrew and Aramaic and as Research Fellow in Old Testament at Tyndale House, Cambridge (1998-2003).

From 2003 to 2007 he was on the faculty of the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he became a Senior Lecturer in New Testament and Deputy Head of the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy. In July 2007 he became Warden of Tyndale House, Cambridge.

He is married to Kathryn with two children, Magdalena and Leo. Commenting on Peter's appointment to Tyndale House, Professor Don A. Carson, Research Professor in New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Illinois, USA, said: "Not many scholars can speak competently across as many technical fields as can Pete."

Dirk Jongkind

Dr Dirk Jongkind is a Dutch biblical scholar who finished his PhD at Cambridge University on Codex Sinaiticus, the oldest complete copy of the New Testament.

After his PhD he was employed by the British Library to carry out research on Codex Sinaiticus and he has published a book entitled Scribal Habits in Codex Sinaiticus (2007). He has also recently re-edited the edition of the Greek New Testament of Samuel Prideaux Tregelles, and carried out significant work on the legal language used in and outside the New Testament.

Currently he is the Research Fellow in New Testament Text and Language at Tyndale House, Cambridge and the John W. Laing Fellow at St Edmund's College, Cambridge. He is married to Marion, with six children.
