John's Gospel
This year we are going to John's gospel for the passion narratives of Jesus. John's is a moving and yet majestic account of the suffering and triumph of the Messiah.
There are deliberate echoes no doubt of Israel's other great King, King David, in John's portrayal. Consider the parallels between John 18:1 and 2 Samuel 15:23 & 30-31. John's inspired account of the last week of the life of Jesus takes up almost half the chapters of his gospel. But from Jesus' first appearance as the Lamb of God to one of his last appearances as the wounded God, John's aim is to persuade his readers of the identity and purpose of this suffering King.

His mission to bring life in all its fullness will only be accomplished as, like the ear of wheat that falls to the ground and dies but produces many seeds, the King mounts the cross to reign over death and hell.
Join us this Easter as we meet some of those who followed Jesus and found hope in him. Philip, Peter, John, Mary and Thomas come in different ways to worship the King and find life in his name.

One would have to write off the Gospel narratives as any kind of historical record, to conclude that Jesus’ followers had expected some sort of miracle after the crucifixion.
