At the Margins
The Manifesto of Jesus in Luke 4 highlights an often over looked reality in churches like Highfields - we are captive to suburbia.
Yes the gospel is for suburbanites, yet its roots were not in the corridors of power but the backstreets of poverty and disease. The Jesus of the New Testament is heard gladly by the common people and is friend to tax collectors and sinners, much to the surprise of the religious and professional classes.
So in this series of evening services we follow Jesus through a succession of life changing encounters with those on the margins of society.
His truth and touch transform them so that they see themselves, and the Gospel of the Kingdom, in radically new ways.
Are we at the margins with Jesus or sticking safely to our comfort zones?
