Happy Families

Studies in the life of David

Preparing for God"Happy Families – there are advantages to studying Bible characters. Truth comes to life because we identify ourselves with their struggles and successes. However one of the dangers of studying a Bible character is that we superimpose their culture onto our culture and their actions onto our actions. In David's case – we will probably never fight to the death a 3 metre giant or be hunted as a fugitive in the desert for 10 years. David is famous for being a shepherd, killing Goliath, a wonderfully expressive songwriter, an adulterous relationship, and a warrior king. There is, though, a sub-plot woven through the narrative. His family life, throughout his life, was dysfunctional and far from happy!" We are covering a lot of ground in the three messages.

The series was made up of three parts:

  • David – the early years 1 Samuel 16 – 1 Samuel 21:9
  • David – the wilderness years 1 Samuel 21 – 2 Samuel 5
  • David – the palace years 2 Samuel 5 – 1 Kings 2:12

You can now catch up on this short series which took place at Cathays during summer 2016.
