The Radical Jesus
Looking through Luke's Gospel on Sunday Evenings this Autumn
Whoever Jesus was, he was no ordinary person. The Jesus we meet in the gospels is the person who some wanted to kill while others were ready to die for him. He is the person who is recorded in Luke's account in chapter 12 and verse 49 as saying "I have come to bring fire on the earth!"
From the beginning of his public life Jesus stirred up controversy and division. Luke presents us with a divided response to Jesus’ first sermon in Nazareth and the impact of his words and deeds continue to challenge the religious and secular world alike.
As we look through Luke on Sunday evenings and let the truth of the stories in which we encounter Jesus grip us, we will begin to appreciate the Jesus who was sufficiently radical and dynamic to start the most lasting revolution the world has seen. Dare to be challenged and changed by the radical Jesus.
