A week to change the world
What will happen now that 4000 Christian leaders from 200 countries have spent one week together, planning how to take the good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth?
How inspiring will it be for you to listen to the summit’s key sessions, as the world’s best bible teachers inspire the global church to take the Christian gospel to every nation of the world?
The third Lausanne Congress on world evangelization took place in Cape Town October 2010. Since its beginnings in 1974 in Switzerland, the Lausanne Movement, motivated and shaped by the Lausanne Covenant statement, has made an immeasurable contribution to the world missionary movement. This October more than 4000 Christian leaders from more than 200 nations will gather for eight days of bible teaching and prayer, discussion, analysis and vision building. The theme will be “God in Christ, reconciling the world to himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19).
Highfields Church was involved in a number of ways – both in Cape Town and Cardiff.
One of our own mission partners, Lindsay Brown, is the International Director of the Lausanne Movement and has been working tirelessly over the past few years on the organizational details of the Congress.
Our Associate Minister, Rev Phil Jenkins, attended the Congress as one of the delegates from Wales. He shared his thoughts on the Highfields Blog before, during and after the Congress.
Our student worker (2010-11) Owen Brown was also in Cape Town and shared news and discussions on a special "Highfields at the Lausanne Congress 2010" Facebook page, which has now been closed.
Highfields also contributed to sponsor another delegate from a church in the majority world.
In Cardiff, participation was enabled for a number of the key sessions of the Congress through video streaming. Highfields was an official Global Link site for Cape Town 2010 (one of 638 global link sites in 91 countries). We showed all the key sessions on a big screen at the Highfields centre in Monthermer Road, just a few hours after they took place in Cape Town.
