Glad To Be Back

Last Sunday reminded me again of the immense privilege we have of being a strategic partner in missions across the world. Lindsay Brown, our main speaker for the day, is one of our longest serving mission partners. He and Ann have been involved in strategic mission work with us for more than twenty five years.
Lindsay's breadth of experience and first-hand knowledge of the global church through his service with IFES and the Lausanne Movement brings a unique perspective to his ministry. How encouraging to hear him reflecting on the increasing fulfilment of Habakkuk’s prophecy – “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
We also heard from Linda Bell and the team who work amongst the ethnic minority groups in the immediate vicinity of the church. How wonderful that today we don’t have to travel the oceans to engage in cross-cultural mission - God has brought the world to our doorstep in Cardiff. And mission is for every one of us, not just the expert or the keen. God has strategically placed each one of us to be witnesses for him.
The evening exposition of 2 Timothy 2, about the sort of people God uses, was inspirational too. We had a living example as Dan and Rachel King shared their vision to serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Tanzania in the coming year.
And just to round it off, when I got back to my desk this week and sorted through the emails, I had one from Alys, one of our young people, updating me on the short term mission project she and her friend Hannah had been involved in. Alys wrote:
"Last Christmas Highfields gave half of the Christmas offering to the Nankhufi project raising money for a water pump in a village I had visited in Malawi that summer. I have attached the update of what has happened. Due to raising more than the target, toilets are also being installed hopefully sometime this month. Thank you so much for supporting us. Please feel free to share with the people of Highfields who gave so kindly."
Proclaiming and being good news – that’s what mission is all about – to the glory of God.
It’s good to be back!
