David Smith

Although officially retired from the full-time staff of International Christian College, Glasgow, Dr David Smith continues to have a world wide ministry.

David Smith

He remains senior research fellow at the College and contributes to the teaching of Masters programmes at Glasgow, Belfast and WEST. Recently he has been travelling and teaching in Kenya, Nigeria, Finland and Thailand.

David is married to Joyce and they have two sons.

David studied at South Wales Bible College before becoming pastor of Eden Chapel in Cambridge and subsequently serving in cross-cultural mission in Nigeria.  A graduate of the University of Aberdeen, he took an MA in Religious Studies and gained his PhD in 1990.

David’s special concerns are focused on the future of mission in a religiously plural world, and he has published extensively in this area. David’s work in recent years has focused on the challenge presented by increasing urbanization.

His latest book Seeking a City with Foundations, published by IVP in 2011, is a theology for an urban world. In it he offers a God-centred vision of the city – a vision which can provide fresh imagination and hope for the century that lies ahead.

David relaxes through gardening, listening to classical music and indulging a lifelong passion for Watford Football Club!
